If you're in the process of buying a new car, you've probably discovered that you need to check your credit score. Your credit score is a number that lenders use to determine how likely you are to pay off your debts. It's calculated using a number of different elements, such as your payment history and how much you owe at the present time. You'll want to have a good idea of your credit score before you look into financing options so that you can work with lenders to find the best financial plan possible.

To check your credit score, you have several options. For one, you can visit MyFico.com. FICO is the most commonly used type of credit score, so this will put you on the same page as most lenders.

You may also purchase your complete credit report directly from one of the major credit bureaus: TransUnion, Equifax, or Experian. You can do this on their websites.

Alternatively, you can get a free credit report yearly from AnnualCreditReport.com which will include your credit score. Each individual is entitled to one free credit report once a year, thanks to the Fair Credit Reporting Act.
